Overlapping Found when placing largest remaining ship
In the position given above, the largest remaining ship is Battle-ship.
That can be placed only along the lines drawn.
When the battle-ship is placed horizontally (see below),
the three neighbours in the middle will always be water cells,no matter where the battle ship is placed.
But the number 4 (in red) needs four cells to be ship segments and it does not have enough free cells. So the horizontal battle-ships positions cannot be correct.
When placing along the slanted line, the middle neighbor of the line will be common water neighbor of all positions.
